Carleton Community Garden

On land loaned to the community by Port Saint John, the Carleton Community Garden began in 2013 with 22 garden plots. Since then, it has expanded to include 37 plots, (10 raised), as well as 6 herb boxes, blueberry, raspberry and rhubarb patches, 9 trees and a greenhouse. With over 50 local gardeners, many contribute fresh produce to the West Side Food Bank.

Market Place Wellness Centre

The Market Place Wellness Centre is located on the lower level of the Carleton Community Centre. The centre offers a number of services and programs based on community need. The centre's team includes a Nurse Practitioner, Administrative Support person, who provides support to the Nurse Practitioner as well as acting as a community liaison to other community partners such as schools, seniors groups, the food bank, and local business. In addition, specimen collection is available at this site 2 days per week and there is a wellness committee which meets monthly to support the work of the wellness centre. This committee is comprised of a variety of community partners, stakeholders, residents and staff of the wellness centre.

West Side Food Bank

The West Side Food Bank operates in the basement level of the Carleton Community Centre, adjacent to the Market Place Wellness Centre. Over fifty volunteers work every week to ensure the shelves are stocked with food to serve an average of 6500 visits per year.

The Food Bank is open for clients on Tuesdays and Fridays, between 1PM and 3PM. Clients must have proof of address and valid Medicare cards.

Non-perishable food donations may be made on Tuesdays and Fridays, or left inside by the Food Bank door during weekday business hours.
